Termite inspections

Termite inspections are recommended at least annually and more often in areas of high termite pressure.  Not only do the inspections check to see whether termites are attacking your property or are present in your yard, but they also identify issues around the property that need to be remedied to make it less attractive to termites. We also pick up leaks and other building maintenance issues, so it's more like a "health check" on your home. Termite treatments

If your home is under termite attack, it can be quite emotional and understandably you want the termites gone as quickly as possible. It's important not to panic! Don't touch the termites, spray them with insecticide or break open any of their mud tubes. Just give Go Pest a call and we will come around as soon as possible to inspect the problem and take you through your options.

The first step in a termite treatment is to carry out a comprehensive termite inspection to determine the extent of the infestation and level of damage. It is important to determine the species present, how the termites entered the building and any construction / maintenance issues that may have contributed to the termite attack.

The second step is to eliminate any active termites from the building. We will use termite dusts, termite baits or termite foams, depending on the situation. This may take several weeks to several month to eliminate the termites, depending on the products we use and the extent of the problem.

Once we have confirmed the termite activity has been eliminated from the building we install a termite managements system to prevent future attacks the third step in the process. Although we will have eliminate the termites from the building, it is often not possible to confirm we have killed the colony and there may also be further termite nests in the area waiting to attack your home! Lasting protection from termites can be achieved using either liquid termiticide treatment to the soil around and under the building or through the installation of a termite monitoring system.

Liquid termiticide treatments prevent termites getting in to your house without being noticed - to get in they would need to build a mud tube over the treated soil and when they do this they can be spotted. Sometimes a liquid soil treatment cannot be installed due to the soil or construction type or due to the personal preference of the home owner. In such cases a termite baiting system can be installed. This consists of plastic termite monitoring stations containing wood which are placed in the soil every 2-3m around the property. These are inspected every 2-3 months. If termites are detected in these monitoring stations a termite baiting treatment will commence to eliminate the termites.

Termite protection

The liquid soil treatments and termite baiting systems described above can provide lasting protection from termites for existing properties, but for new properties being built and renovations / extensions, a range of different termite protection measures are required. These pre-construction termite treatments are often a combination of physical and chemical barriers which are integrated with the construction features of the building to provide an integral termite protection system.

If you are thinking of building a home or carrying out renovations / extensions, give us a call before you start so we can advise you as to the range of options available. Although some builder are knowledgeable in this area, many will provide poor advice or only install the cheapest option. When it comes to protecting your most valuable asset, we believe it is important to give you all the information so you can make an informed choice.

Be aware that even building a deck or installing gardens, paths and driveways require termite protection to be considered - home renovators and landscape gardeners are often unaware of the requirements and such mistake are often the cause of future termite attacks.

Please give as a call for advice before your next building, renovation or landscape project
